Starter Guide

PLEASE BE AWARE

Neocaridinas and Caridinas have DIFFERENT requirements and CANNOT normally be kept together

  • 1 gallon tank minimum (3+ gallons is ideal)
  • Sponge filter set to a low-medium flow rate
  • TDS Meter
  • Water Parameter Testing Kit (API Recommended)
  • Neos = Salty Shrimp GH/KH+ Remineralizer
  • Neos = Inert Substrate
  • Neos = Water conditioner for tap water
  • Caridina = Aquasoil (ADA Amazonia, Brightwell, ETC)
  • Caridina = Salty Shrimp GH+ Remineralizer
  • Caridina = RO (Reverse Osmosis) Water
  • Food = Shrimp King Complete, MK Breed Cheeseburger, Algae Wafers, Blanched Veggies

Make sure the water in your tank has the proper TDS and parameters before beginning. Shrimp are sensitive and need more attention during the intial acclimation phase, but afterwards they basically maintain themselves.

Upon getting your shrimp, float the bag in your aquarium for 1-2 hours to let the water in the bag reach the same temperature as the ambient water in your tank. After the first step, move the bag with your shrimp from the floating position to a second container, open the bag, and begin drip acclimating your shrimp over the next hour. You can do this by tying a small knot in an air tube and starting a siphon from your tank. Ideally 1 drip per second. The slower the better, for really expensive shrimp you can do this process overnight as long as the water you are dripping in is highly oxygenated. This is the most important step so take your time and be patient! After the 1-2 hours you are ready to add your shrimp to their new home. Be sure to not include any of the water the shrimp came in as you don't want to contaminate your cycled tank with the old water they were shipped in. Remember to feed very sparingly, when in doubt do not feed! Best of luck and welcome to the shrimp keeping hobby!
